Steel alloy with minimum Chromium content of 10.5% is commonly known as Stainless Steel. It is characterized by being high corrosion resistance. The main component of Stainless Steel is Iron, Chromium and low amount of Carbon. The high content of Chromium enable the steel to create Chromium Oxide Film, this film is a passive film which cannot be seen by naked eye and its thinness is equivalent to placing a sheet of paper on top of a 20 storey building. If the film is damaged by mechanical force or any chemical substances, the chromium content will automatically form a new Chromium Oxide film when exposed to oxygen, even if there is little oxygen in the atmosphere.

Stainless’ properties of corrosion resistance and other characteristic can be improved by increasing chromium content and adding other elements to the steel: for instance, molybdenum, nickel, and nitrogen. There are over 60 kinds of Stainless Steel. With unique properties such as resistance to rust compared with other metals, low maintenance cost, ease of welding and forming, long useful life and the ability to be fully recycled makes it very cost effective and applicable to many different industries.
